Saint Barthélemy, commonly known as St. Barts, is a French-speaking Caribbean Island is known for its designer shops and white sand beaches. St. Barts is located in the Lesser Antilles and part of the Leeward Islands; it is situated south-east of St. Martin. Its capital city, Gustavia, encompassing a yacht-filled harbour, features high-end restaurants and historical attractions such as the Wall House, whose presentations highlight the Island’s Swedish colonial history. Roosted above the town is 17th-century Fort Karl, overlooking the famous Shell Beach. St. Barts has an area of 9.5 square miles and a population of approximately 9,000 people.
