Punta Cana

Thousands of visitors rush to the shores of Punta Cana, one of if not the most popular resort destination in the Caribbean. Punta Cana is located on Dominican Republic’s east coast. Punta Cana’s famous beach is also a top destination for water sports activities such as kayaking, windsurfing etc. The location features an airstrip serving regular flights bringing adventure and pleasure-seekers to its nearby scape Park and world-class golf courses. Other activities include, biplane tours, dune buggies, and visiting the refreshing Hoyo Azul Lagoon.

Santo Domingo

The oldest City in the New World, Dominican Republic has more than a lot to offer. A trip to this historical will teach a lot about the culture of Santo Domingo and how it all started. Santo Domingo is a piece of Old World Charm with remains of colonial past sprinkled all over the city. Santo Domingo is home to the oldest cathedral in the entire Western Hemisphere, also known as “The First Cathedral of the Americas”. Santo Domingo also has a lot of Museums, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Colonial City (Zona Colonial), which includes historical Spanish Colonial buildings and fanciful cobblestone streets. Other locations in Santo Domingo showcasing Dominican Republic’s cultural history are the National Palace, the Museum of Modern Art and The Plaza de la Cultura, which is home to the Palace of Fine Arts.

Playa Dorada 

The first ever tourist destinations in the Dominican Republic, Playa Dorado. Playa Dorado is located on the northern coastline of the Dominican Republic. Playa Dorado is visually one of the most beautiful destinations in the Caribbean. The large resort area is lined by immaculate beaches encompassed by coconut palms, and visitor often mentions how safe they feel in the area. The resort town is also the home to the Robert Trent Jones golf course and has numerous amenities and facilities including shopping and restaurants.

Samaná Peninsula and Samaná Bay

The Samaná Peninsula and Samaná Bay is a top spot to watch humpback whales birth their young in the months of January and February. Humpbacks are just one of the many aquatic animals which visit the Samana Bay. It is the perfect location for nature lovers, where they can visit the Parque Nacional Los Haïtises, an untouched bliss of lush vegetation, crystalline Caribbean waters, unique rock formations ascending from the Caribbean Sea and thick mangroves. Visitors will also find bird-filled grottos like the Cueva del Angel and also the Salto El Limón waterfall, which is one of the most picturesque beaches in the Dominican Republic.

Lake Enriquillo

The flock of pink flamingos and iguanas are the main charm at Lake Enriquillo, which is known to be the largest saltwater lake in the Caribbean, and also the lowest point in the Caribbean, sitting at 45m blow the Caribbean Sea level. The lake is situated in a rather unfruitful landscape and because of the level rise and the fact and the fact that it has no outlet, its waters are briny. Take a ferry ride on the reptile-infested waters Isla Cabritos, an island in the centre of the lake where you will late the historic Taino rock art, and remember to take your camera because you will want to capture the flocks of flamingos along the turquoise backdrop of the water.

The Pico Duarte 

The Dominican Republic is home to the highest peak in the Caribbean, the Pico Duarte. The Mountain Range is a popular destination for nature lovers, climbers and hikers; the Dominican Republic is located in the Cordillera Central area.   The trek to the summit takes between two and four days depending on the route you decide to take. When you get to the peak which is 3,098m above the Caribbean Sea, you will be graced by breathtaking views of the Dominican Republic, not to mention a real sense of accomplishment.

Eastern National Park

The lush biodiversity of Dominican Republic’s Eastern National Park (Parque Nacional del Este) made it the perfect habitat for a variety of animal species and tropical vegetation. The Parque Nacional del Este has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site, housing one of the most extensive marine parks in the Caribbean, with dolphins, manatees, numerous species of fish as well as 4 different species of turtles. The Eastern National Park is also home to rare Paloma Coronita, also known as the white-headed or crown dove, also 112 species of birds and the rhinoceros iguana.

Basilica of Our Lady

The majority of the Dominican Republic’s  population is Roman Catholic, maintaining ancient artefacts and churches are very crucial and considered as a treasure of their culture and national heritage. This Roman Catholic building is devoted to the patroness of the nation, Our Lady of Altagracia houses the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia en Higuey. The Basilica of Our Lady attracts visitors from all over the country and the world to its yearly Mass on the 21st of January. The building itself is also a modern architectural wonder.

Bahia de Las Aguilas and Jaragua National Park

The isolated Bahia de Las Aguilas is a beautiful, six-mile stretch of pristine beach on the southwestern coast of the Dominican Republic. The tranquil, aqua-green waters of the protected   Jaragua National Park is filled with several species of birds as well as thousands of marine life. The location is best reached by ferry from the small village of La Cueva.

La Romana

The Altos de Chavón is a strange imitation of the 16th-century artisans’ town in La Romana. Situated on the south-east coast of the Dominican Republic, La Romana is the home of the beautiful Casa de Campo Resort where the rooms are partially decorated by the popular Dominican designer, Oscar de la Renta. One of the best golf courses in the Caribbean, The Teeth of the Dog is also located at the Casa de Campo. La Romana is also nearby to the famous cruise destination of Isla Catalina.
